ABOUT US
ALG & Associates is a law firm in Japan with 11 offices and over 100 lawyers.
Based on our philosophy of pursuing professionalism, we have introduced a divisional system, which is rare among Japanese law firms, and have accumulated specialized know-how. In Japan, we handle matters from the company's perspective, such as company-side labor and real estate matters, and based on our extensive experience and track record, we conduct numerous seminars and contribute to various magazines.
As Japanese companies are increasing their investment in ASEAN countries, we are receiving more legal and tax-related consultations from companies that have expanded into ASEAN countries. In order to pursue legal expertise in ASEAN countries and meet the needs of companies, ALG&Associates has established an ASEAN business division and an office in Bangkok, Thailand, one of the centers of ASEAN.
Attorney Tsuki Kawamura, director of the Thailand office, passed the bar exam in 1992 and is a qualified lawyer in Japan. He has been working at a tax office in Thailand for approximately 13 years since 2007, specializing in taxation, legal affairs, and labor matters. I have experience in a wide range of fields. In addition to providing legal services from Japan through our ASEAN business department, we are also able to conduct on-site research in Thailand, allowing us to provide legal services rooted in Thai practice.
Regarding the tax issues that companies operating in Thailand face on a daily basis, we can provide advice on the tax risks latent in transactions conducted by companies, based on precedents of the tax authorities and Thai case law. We also have extensive experience in handling and negotiating tax audits and tax refund claims.
We also have extensive experience in advising on labor issues in Thailand and attending dismissal and labor court proceedings. In connection with M&A of a local Thai subsidiary, we can conduct an investigation of the local Thai subsidiary using the methods cultivated through tax and legal due diligence.
For a local subsidiary in Thailand, tax and legal matters in Thailand may be just one matter of consultation or investigation, but the laws and regulations in various fields such as taxation, labor affairs, corporate law, foreign investment regulations, investment promotion law, visas and work permits, etc. Many of the issues are mutually related, but at our Thailand branch, we provide consultations and consultations from a multifaceted perspective that not only considers what the client has asked us, but also issues that arise from that.
